Melbourne Victory teamed with Victoria Police Soccer Club (VPSC) in providing students from the Doveton Special Soccer School (DSSS) with the exciting opportunity to meet Victory Coach Ernie Merrick and Football Operations Manager Gary Cole prior to the club’s match against Perth Glory at Telstra Dome last weekend.
Melbourne Victory teamed with Victoria Police Soccer Club (VPSC) in providing students from the Doveton Special Soccer School (DSSS) with the exciting opportunity to meet Victory Coach Ernie Merrick and Football Operations Manager Gary Cole prior to the club’s match against Perth Glory at Telstra Dome last weekend.
The DSSS are a team made up of people with disabilities that play against VPSC in an annual friendly match, which was contested at Port Melbourne last Saturday.
DSSS reigned supreme for the eighth consecutive year, winning an entertaining match 8-7.
Highlights of the match included a spectacular 30-metre goal from young Simon and a clinical finish from David, who was again a guest player for VPSC.
Following a barbeque, DSSS players, carers and families were taken by police bus to Telstra Dome, where they were greeted on ground by Merrick and Cole.
After a team photo on pitch, DSSS took their seats and cheered Victory on to a rousing 4-0 win.
VPSC President Senior Sergeant Ron Sinclair said both teams thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
“Without Melbourne Victory’s generosity in supplying complimentary tickets, we would not have been able to bring everyone along to the match.
“Allowing the DSSS team on the Telstra Dome pitch and facilitating a photo opportunity with Ernie and Gary made the night unforgettable for all the DSSS players and families.
“I-ve had dozens of phone calls, text messages and emails from all involved, saying what a huge impact the entire day had on all concerned.
“Melbourne Victory could not have been more supportive or helpful and their work within the community is outstanding.”
