January 7, 2007 was a momentous day for Melbourne Victory, the Hyundai A-League and Australian football in general, Leigh Broxham made his debut.
Then 19-year-old Broxham replaced Steve Pantelidis in the 57th minute of a 2-2 draw with Perth Glory.
We decided to look into four key events that occurred around Brox’s Melbourne Victory debut that definitely aren’t a coincidence.
Pluto downgraded to ‘dwarf planet’
Just five months before Brox’s Victory debut, the International Astronomical Union realised the solar system wasn’t going to be big enough and downgraded Pluto’s status to ‘dwarf planet’.
There are officially only 8 planets in the Solar System. Pluto was downgraded in 2006.

In the same way Leigh Broxham changed the football world, the iPhone has been a game-changer in the tech world. Therefore, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Apple announced the first ever iPhone just two days after Brox’s debut – giving football fans an innovative new way to consume Brox content.
EA Sports included the Hyundai A-League in FIFA
EA Sports, the maker of the world’s most popular football game, realised the golden opportunity it had very quickly. FIFA 08 was the first edition of the game released following Brox’s debut, are we surprised it was the first game featuring the Hyundai A-League?
Victory wins first Hyundai A-League title
From the lowest-placed Australian team in the league in 2005/06 to Premiers & Champions in 2006/07, it only took 126 minutes of playing time for Broxie to turn Victory’s fortunes around.
