The MVFC Schools 5-a-side gala days continued recently with the Cheltenham gala day held at Norman Luth Reserve in Springvale.

Grade 3 and 4 students from Cheltenham East Primary, Heatherton Christian College, Minaret College, Springvale West Primary and St Mark-s Primary school participated in a series of five a side football games and juggling and penalty shoot out competitions.

Each game was played with unbridled enthusiasm and enjoyment, with many goals celebrated and excitement shown on all pitches throughout the day.

The boys juggling competition provided the spectacle of the day, with Heatherton Christian College student Thomas leading the way with a fantastic 21 in a row off his right foot, before Minaret College student Amin blitzed all before him achieving an outstanding 32 in a row to win the juggling crown for the day.

Not to be outdone by the boys, the competition for the girls juggling crown was also fierce, with the competition coming down to a battle between Genevieve and Chanel, both students at St Mark-s Primary, with Chanel finally being declared the winner.

Minaret College also produced the boy-s penalty shootout champion with Naim, who recovered from an injury earlier in the day to win a tightly contested competition.

Heatherton Christian College teacher Micah Ham was impressed by the great structure of the gala day, “we are a small P-12 school with only 250 students, and it is great for our kids to be exposed to a quality program. The fact that the whole day encourages students of all abilities to get involved in the days activities, with the focus on participation rather than winning, is very refreshing.”

The MVFC Schools 5-a-side gala days continue this week on Wednesday in Edithvale (Edithvale Recreation Reserve) and Thursday in Spotswood (McIvor Reserve).
