Melbourne Victory is proud to confirm that Josh Inserra has been named in the Young Socceroos for the upcoming FIFA U20 World Cup Chile 2025 qualifying tournament, being the AFC U20 Asian Cup in Shenzhen, China.
Subway Young Socceroos’ Head Coach, Trevor Morgan, selected Inserra in his 23-player squad to represent Australia in Group A of the event, with the team set to depart for a training camp in Chiba, Tokyo on 3 February.
Inserra joined the Academy at Melbourne Victory as a 16-year-old and has graduated through the Club’s junior and senior NPL programs. Securing a professional contract in 2023, the defender went on to play in the senior Academy and played a pivotal role in the Club winning promotion into the National Premier League Victoria for 2025.
The Young Socceroos will play a friendly match against Japan on 7 February, before travelling to China for their first match of the tournament on 12 February at Bao’an Stadium against the Kyrgyz Republic.
The Subway Young Socceroos are then set to face Qatar (15 February) and China PR (18 February) with the finals kicking off on 22 February.
The tournament plays an important role in the development of some of Australia’s most talented young players. In addition to Inserra, Victory young guns Daniel Graskoski, Kayne Razmovski and Jesse Hoey were also named as part of the extended squad, and could face a call up in the event of any squad withdrawals.
