Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce that Roderick Miranda and Kayla Morrison will captain their respective sides for the 2023/24 Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s and Liberty A-League Women’s seasons.
Miranda will lead the Men’s side for the first time in a full-time capacity, being elevated to the captaincy role after spending two seasons in the senior leadership team.
The Portuguese defender has been a mainstay of the squad since arriving in Melbourne in 2021, making 43 A-League Men’s appearances, and has brought a level of experience and leadership to the team that has culminated in him inheriting the captain’s armband.
Morrison will skipper the Women’s side for the third consecutive season, helping lead the side to two Championships in her time at Melbourne Victory.
Miranda said he was honoured to be leading the A-League Men’s squad for the upcoming campaign as the side embarks on an important season for the Club.
“I’m deeply humbled by the prospect of wearing the armband for this great Club and I’m looking forward to everyone coming with us on the journey this season,” Miranda said.
“Melbourne and Melbourne Victory has felt like home to me ever since I arrived at the Club and to be given this honour to lead the squad this season is something I am deeply proud of and will give everything for the Club and this group of players.”
Morrison echoed the sentiment, saying she is looking to build upon the culture and success of the side developed over her time leading the squad.
“I’m incredibly excited for the season ahead and to continue my role as Captain is an incredible honour for me,” Morrison said.
“This group means so much to me and leading this side couldn’t be done without the incredible players and leaders that play alongside me every week.
“I’m looking forward to another big season and being up on stage to lift the Championship trophy with the team this season.”
Melbourne Victory’s A-League Women’s side begins their season on Sunday 15 October at the Home of the Matildas against Brisbane Roar while the Men’s squad begin their 2023/24 campaign on Saturday 21 October as they face Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium.
