In the lead-up to our Member Recognition Round game against Wellington Phoenix at AAMI Park this Friday night, we’re featuring stories on some of our most passionate members.
Today, we’re highlighting Victory member Michael Henderson.
How long have you been a Victory member?
Michael: 14 years.
What is your favourite Melbourne Victory moment?
Michael: Just one? I remember one game against Sydney we arrived a little bit late, just in time to see Sydney take a 2-0 lead. I remember Archie pulled one back, Danny ploughed through Kosmina, Nicky Ward equalised, before Ney Fabiano banged in the winner.
It was my first experience coming from behind like that. Such drama! The whole terrace bouncing while Fabiano danced in celebration.
Why do you support Melbourne Victory?
Michael: Melbourne Victory was a big part of my youth. All my friends are members and everyone who knows me knows I’m a proud Victory member.
The club does a good job of representing our city. We have the biggest and best support in the country and we win things!
If you could be in charge of Melbourne Victory for one day what would you do?
Michael: I’d make the North and South ends general admission again. When I came to my first game, it was so easy to walk into the NT and join in and that’s what got me hooked.
I’d work towards establishing our own academy, buy out AAMI Park and kick out City. Maybe paint the seats navy blue. Wait, do I also have an unlimited budget?
Who is your favourite Victory player and why?
Michael: Carlos Hernandez! He was so good on the pitch. He scored exclusively spectacular goals and played perfect passes. He played with a smile on face and he was a great representative of our club.
Who would you like to see playing for Melbourne Victory?
Michael: I’d say Erling Haaland but I don’t want to bankrupt the club. Maybe Zlatan Ibrahimovic just for entertainment value. He’d certainly score us some goals.
Make sure you get down to AAMI Park this Friday night for our final home game of the season.
Every member who scans in goes into the draw to win 1-of-5 team signed jerseys.
