Victory coach Tony Popovic says his team is ready to go for tomorrow night’s A-League Men clash against Wellington Phoenix after lifting the FFA Cup trophy on Saturday.
Speaking to media on Tuesday, Popovic said the Club celebrated the achievement on the night but have returned to training with their full attention on continuing their strong league form.
“We had a function with the whole Club for a few hours at the stadium then had a light recovery day on Sunday and we’re ready to go for the next game,” Popovic said.
“We all enjoyed it and everyone was happy. We’ve made some history as a group and we’re proud of that. Now we’ve got to use that success to want some more and move on to the next challenge, which is Wellington tomorrow night.
“We had a good training session on Monday, so the players are ready to move on.
“We don’t want them to forget the success, we want to have it in their minds and know what it took to get there to taste success and how hard you have to work to repeat it.”
Wellington enter the fixture fresh off a 3-1 win over Macarthur on Sunday.
Popovic expects to face a high-quality outfit.
“We’re playing a team who is in form having won their last few games. It’s a great challenge for us and I feel the players will be ready,” he said.
“They’ll be confident from their last win and we’ll be confident from our Cup win.
“It’ll be a tough match but one I believe we can get the three points in.”
