‘Proud’ Kayla Morrison ready to lead her charges

Melbourne Victory Captain Kayla Morrison has explained how proud she is of her team ahead of Saturday’s Derby Semi Final against Melbourne City.

Victory are hunting a historic three-peat in Season 2022/23, and the journey to a potential third Grand Final in as many years starts on Saturday with a Melbourne Derby Semi Final.

Melbourne City is the opponent, Casey Fields is the location, and 3:00pm is the kick-off time.

On leading her side to another Finals campaign:

“I’m really proud. I think we had probably not our best season, but to fight every single game.”

“We haven’t dropped points in so long. We’ve lost one game in four months – so that shows consistency.”

“So some of those draws felt like wins, but some felt like losses. But we still were really consistent throughout and we know we just have to make it to finals and then we are a finals team.”

“When we come here, it’s a clean slate and we can just get up and go again.”

On being just two games away from a Grand Final:

“I think it’s motivation.”

“The girls don’t get too ahead of themselves. No one’s talking about who we could play in the next game. Everyone’s just talking about the now, which is always really good to keep everyone levelheaded.”

“So yeah, I think it’s just motivation going into City, and then from there on we’ll just grow from that.”

On the side’s game-by-game mentality:

“It’s a game-by-game mentality with a positive outlook on a three-peat.”

“Of course you don’t want to cut yourself short and you want to have confidence, but you never want to be cocky. So it’s just finding a balance.”

“It’s exciting to think that it can be attainable.”

On how the team is feeling ahead of Saturday:

“It’s focused (the feeling), but it’s also free, you know, this is it in this game. You win, you go on, you lose, you don’t.”

“You have to be focused. But you also can have a lot of fun and you just put everything towards that, because if you walk away not putting everything towards that, you’re going to regret it.”
