Melbourne Victory captain Mark Milligan says his side is prepared for a visit from the in-form Wanderers this Saturday night.

Milligan, who missed Victory’s 1-0 loss to the Wanderers on national duty in November, said his side wanted to take the initiative in the match, and take the game to the second placed side.

“We’ve been building since that last encounter, they are going to be away from home, so we just need to make sure we move the ball quickly and when we do get around the box, we are clinical,” Milligan said.

“The Wanderers are a real defensive unit, they are never one out, they are always together.

“It’s important to get the 3 points this weekend, but it’s important to keep our momentum going – we are slowly closing the gap (to the Wanderers and Brisbane Roar).”

Milligan said there were plenty of positives to come from last week’s 3-1 Melbourne Derby win, including three clinical goals. He said Heart were still playing well defensively, despite being a man down.

“While they did have 10-men, I don’t think you take anything away from the actual performance – our set up and the way we created chances still came from our structure and formation and that’s definitely a positive thing,” he said.
