Melbourne Victory players and Victoria Police members have joined forces on the field for a Transport Accident Commission advertisement.
The advertisement was filmed at Williamstown Oval today and will run during the Hyundai A-League season targeting football fans.
TAC Partnerships Manager Candice McDonald said working with Melbourne Victory helped the TAC promote road safety to football fans, particularly young male drivers.
“We know that young men aged 18-29 are over-represented in the road toll,” Ms McDonald said.
“Already in 2010, 45 men aged between 18 and 29 have died on our roads, representing nearly 25 per cent of the road toll to date. That includes 25 young male drivers.”
“Many young men will see our new road safety advertisement screened at games throughout the 2010/2011 Hyundai A-League season.”
Victoria Police were also part of the advertisement, as an extension of the successful enforcement and education relationship with the TAC.
“Victoria Police-s involvement in the ad will remind viewers that if you act up on the roads, you will get caught,” Ms McDonald said.
“The TAC and Victoria Police have proven that combining public education and enforcement has been successful in creating significant changes in driver behaviour.”
“We hope this advertisement will remind drivers to keep safe on our roads, but that road rules will be enforced if you are caught speeding,” Ms McDonald said.
The advertisement-s first screening will be at Melbourne Victory-s home game at AAMI Park on August 14.
