The Melbourne Victory Schools 5-a-Side program commenced for term three with Gala Days in Altona and Keilor.
Budding footballers from Keilor Primary School, Kings Park Primary School, Mary Mackillop Primary School, St Albans Meadows Primary School, St Albans South Primary School and St Paul-s Kealba Primary School enjoyed playing 5-a-side games at the Gala Day hosted by the Green Gully Soccer Club.
Melbourne Victory Women player Rita Mankowska visited participants and ran a special skill development session for participants from each school.
“We have 350 students who all barrack for Melbourne Victory,” St Albans Meadows Primary School teacher Anthony Mead said.
“There is low involvement in out of school organised competitions, which is why the Melbourne Victory Gala Days is vital in building teamwork and new friendships while involving the kids in exercise.”
There was wild weather for the Altona Gala Day, but it failed to dampen the spirits of participants from Ardeer Primary School, Christ the King Primary School, Newport Primary School, St Leo the Great Primary School, St Augustine-s Primary School and the Western English Language School.
Melbourne Victory defender Evan Berger and Melbourne Victory Women defender Marlies Oostdam were both on hand to give participants playing tips, completing a question and answer session and signing autographs for excited participants at the conclusion of the event.
“These Gala Days are a great idea, our school will definitely participate again in the future, the kids love it and it is great for the promotion of the sport,” Christ the King Primary School teacher John Anderson said.
Melbourne Victory would like to thank Altona City Soccer Club and Hobson-s Bay City Council for providing the venue for the Gala Day.
The Melbourne Victory Schools 5-a-Side Gala Days will continue soon in Werribee, Coburg, Hallam and Springvale. Click here to register.
