Jets cruise past Victory

Newcastle Jets claimed their first win of the Westfield W-League season, beating Melbourne Victory 4-0 on Sunday.

After Natasha Dowie had an early chance saved by Kelsey Wys, the Jets took an eighth-minute lead.

Megan Oyster fired a free-kick from the edge of the area into the bottom corner to put the visitors 1-0 up.

Arin Gilliland doubled the lead with a header from a corner on the quarter-hour mark, before Emma Stanbury scored a third for the Jets.

The second half was far more even, Lia Privitelli striking the crossbar for Victory just after the hour-mark.

A Dowie header was cleared off the line before the Jets sealed their win through Jenna Kingsley in additional time.

Victory returns to action with a clash against Sydney FC at Lakeside Stadium next Sunday, while the Jets face Perth Glory.
