Melbourne Victory Football Club is delighted to announce it has been overwhelmed by interest surrounding its July 24 friendly against one of the world-s most famous sporting clubs, English Premier League giants, Liverpool FC.

With ticket sales officially launching this morning, a staggering 33,000 were snapped up by die-hard football fans in the first 33 minutes and the club can now confirm that all pre-sale and public tickets have been sold, with only the MCC members reserve remaining.

This will be Liverpool-s first visit to Australia and fans have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to secure their seats since confirmation of the historic fixture was announced last week.

Melbourne Victory Managing Director, Richard Wilson, was excited by the prospect of a bumper crowd when the Reds take to the hallowed turf of the MCG on July 24.

“The interest in this game has been phenomenal and just goes to show how big a club like Liverpool FC is globally – while it further emphasises the great strides the sport is making in our fantastic city of Melbourne,” Mr Wilson said.

“For our club, Melbourne Victory, to be involved in a fixture like this at a stadium like the MCG in front of potentially 90-thousand people, with millions of others watching on TV around the world, is just unbelievable.

“I don-t think anyone expected tickets to sell-out so quickly, but considering the enormous number of fans Liverpool has globally, we-re not entirely surprised and it-s a great result for all concerned,” he added.

Any question marks over how much importance Liverpool are placing on this pre-season hit-out were eradicated when their Manager, Brendan Rodgers, confirmed he would be bringing his entire playing squad (injury permitting) to Melbourne.
