Victory return to Melbourne after its Round 1 draw with the Central Coast Mariners as the Club continued its unbeaten streak to open the season to five matches, not losing since the 2018/19 season opener.

Kisnorbo’s troops rued chances late and early in the second half to establish the lead in the contest as Roderick Miranda’s 60th minute red card changed the complexion of the match where the side were content with settling for a point away from home.

This week’s ‘hosts’ opened the season with a tight 1-0 win away from home against the Newcastle Jets. Marco Tilio’s early strike separated the side as City goalkeeper, Patrick Beach kept his side ahead in the contest with a ‘man of the match’ performance despite going down to ten men after 70 minutes with Jimmy Jeggo issues his marching orders.

Both sides will be desperate to give their fans the early bragging rights of the season as Victory looks to extend its unbeaten run against City to five matches.

Miranda and Jeggo will miss the match with their misdemeanors from the week before but both side will be fit, firing and expecting fireworks heading into this one.

It was only last May the sides last met in the Final Series after a memorable penalty shootout and a titanic effort from Paul Izzo saw Victory progress to the Semi Finals and Kisnorbo’s side will be looking to replicate that in the Head Coach’s first match against his former side.

The ledger teeters tightly between the sides with Victory sitting on 17 wins, City on 15 and 13 draws between the sides.
