Melbourne Victory has today released Matthew Foschini from the final year of his contract, effective immediately.
Foschini made 41 Hyundai A-League appearances for the club and was the first player to progress from its youth system to the senior squad, making his debut in Round 4 of the 2009/10 Hyundai A-League season as a substitute against Perth Glory.
The 22-year-old said his time at Melbourne Victory had been life-changing.
“I’d like to thank everyone at Melbourne Victory for their support and advice over the past few years. For me, the Melbourne Victory changeroom has been like a second home and one that I will certainly miss,” Foschini said.
“While things didn’t quite work out, the club provided me with the opportunity to realise my boyhood dream of signing a professional contract and that is something I-ll always appreciate.”
Melbourne Victory Coach Ange Postecoglou thanked Foschini for his service to the club.
“Matt has been a terrific clubman during his time at Melbourne Victory and a very popular figure amongst the playing group,” Postecoglou said.
“From our perspective it was not an easy decision to let him go, but our feeling was that Matt was at a stage where regular first team football was a priority.”
“We wish him all the best for the future.”
