Victory stars Adrian Leijer and Archie Thompson joined forces with Melbourne Victory women Stephanie Cately and Rita Mankowska to support the young footballers of tomorrow at the annual School Sport Victoria Team Vic Football jersey presentation.

The Victory stars took part in a Q & A, providing the talented youngsters with some words of wisdom and shared their early memories of football and their pathway to success.

The players presented the School Sport Victoria Team Vic playing strip to the 12 years and under girls and boys teams and the 19 years and under girls and boys team.

The young footballers were incredibly excited to meet their Victory heroes and to be wearing the Victory badge on their new team Vic strips. For images of the evening click here.

The awards evening was also a time to celebrate the partnerships that have been developed between Melbourne Victory and School Sport Victoria (SSV), adidas and ME Bank. SSV is responsible for providing school sport opportunities at school, state and national levels of competition. Over 2,400 government, catholic and independent primary and secondary schools are involved with SSV catering for competitions for 550,000 students. The domestic football program includes the adidas Victory Cup and the ME Bank Victory Cup.

The ME Bank Victory Cup is the secondary school competition for girls and boys from years 7 to 12, and the adidas Victory Cup is the primary schools competition for girls and boys from grades 5 and 6. Over 2,400 schools have the opportunity to compete for these prestigious trophies.

Melbourne Victory Managing Director, Richard Wilson was on hand at the presentation night providing the junior footballers and guests with a key note address. He said “It was great to be part of the SSV presentation evening and see so many talented young players, with a clear pathway to develop as footballers. The elation on their faces was priceless as they tried on the new team Vic kit with the Victory badge in prominent position. We hope they wear the kit with pride and the words from our Victory stars give them the confidence to do their best.”

We would like to thank our partners School Sport Victoria, ME Bank and adidas for their continued support and development of grassroots participation in football.

We wish the Victorian state team the best of luck and Victory will be behind them 100%.
