Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce the signing of talented youngster Jay Barnett on a one-year deal.
Barnett, a midfielder who made three Hyundai A-League appearances for Brisbane Roar, has joined Victory as a scholarship player.
The 18-year-old was a member of the final Joeys AIS group, and in 2017 was signed by the Roar before making his A-League debut against Western Sydney Wanderers in January this year.
Barnett, who played a key part in Brisbane’s Foxtel Y-League-winning campaign, said he was excited to begin a new chapter with Melbourne Victory.
“It’s a great honour to be joining a club of this size, and when I first heard of their interest in me, I had no hesitation in making the move,” said Barnett.
“I see an opportunity here to progress and develop my game further, and I just want to play as many games for the Club as I can.”
Melbourne Victory can also confirm that Rahmat Akbari has returned to Brisbane following the completion of his contract.
Akbari joined Victory at the start of the 2018/19 season from Brisbane Roar on a one-year deal and made 11 appearances across all senior competitions.
Melbourne Victory thanks Rahmat for his contribution to the Club and wishes him all the best in the future.
