The following Ninja A-League Women match review panel outcome was published on Monday, February 2, 5pm.
The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Con Diomis and Rhali Dobson – convened to consider the incident arising out of the Ninja A-League Women match played between Friday, January 31 and Sunday, February 1, in relation to Claudia Bunge of Melbourne Victory.
The independent MRP considered an Obvious Error application made by Melbourne Victory in relation to an incident in or around the 32nd minute of Victory’s Ninja A-League Women match against Canberra United FC on Sunday, 1 February, in which Bunge received a direct Red Card for the offence of “Denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, as prescribed in Law 12 of the Laws of the Game”.
In accordance with the A-Leagues Disciplinary Regulations, the MRP has the authority to consider an Obvious Error application submitted by Bunge on the basis that there was no obvious goal-scoring opportunity.
The MRP unanimously allowed the application.
As such, the Red Card has been expunged from Bunge’s record and replaced with a Yellow Card, and she will not be required to serve the Mandatory Match Suspension of one match.
The Club appealed the red card issued to Claudia Bunge on the basis of clear and obvious error and is pleased that this appeal was successful. Bunge will be available for this weekend’s match against the Newcastle Jets in Shepparton.
