Post-match reaction: Popovic

Melbourne Victory Head Coach Tony Popovic praised his team’s efforts after their 1-0 win over Western United in the first of two Semi-Final legs.

A Jake Brimmer wonder goal secured a 1-0 advantage heading into Saturday’s second leg.

Popovic on the performance…

“It was a tough Semi-Final which is what you expect, a real battle. It was always going to be a tight game and one that needed something a little bit special and we scored a fantastic goal.”

“They’re a very well organised team, they’re hard to break down. We had to be patient and it took a fantastic goal to do it.”

on Jake Brimmer’s form…

“Jake is doing something now which he needed in his game – he’s scoring a lot more frequently now which has happened in the last couple of months. He was always assisting goals but now he’s starting to score and score in big games.”

“We’re very happy with how he’s playing and hopefully he can produce another special moment on Saturday.”

on Saturday’s second leg…

“I think we’ll have a fantastic crowd. We’re halfway to achieving this part of the goal in making the Grand Final and if we can get as many of our fans and members at the games to support us and be that twelfth man, that can help us achieve what we want to do.”
