Post-Match Reaction | Tony Popovic on Mariners defeat

Head Coach Tony Popovic spoke to the media after Victory’s 0-1 defeat to Central Coast Mariners

On the performance...

“Definitely a lot of flash-points. A lot of decisions in the game that didn’t quite go our way.”

“But we lost the game.”

“I thought first half we controlled it really well…we didn’t give away a chance in the first half.”

“Unfortunately we didn’t take one of those couple of good opportunities that we had.”

“Second half a lot of things didn’t go our way.”

“We’ll certainly look for clarification on all the decisions.”

“But I think you can see clearly, ten men, the effort was there, the commitment’s there, desire’s there. We had a couple of good half-opportunities, but it didn’t fall for us.”

On Ryan Teague’s involvement in the goal…

“I’m sure he’ll get over it.”

“Obviously he’s playing professional football for the first time.”

“Three games in a week is tough for him. I thought he found Tuesday difficult, and today he found physically very difficult.”

“He’ll grow from that. He’s a young player.”

On Kasey Bos’ debut…

“It was a short period, but obviously it will be a day that he won’t forget.”

“I’m sure it was special for him and his family.”

“We’ll keep nurturing him.”

“I thought he held his own, and he’ll gain confidence from that.”

On Roly Bonevacia…

“We hope to have him next week.”

“Hopefully with another week’s training, he’ll be available.”
