Melbourne Victory wishes to congratulate Jakob Poulsen on his career, after the midfielder announced his retirement.
Poulsen arrived at Victory ahead of the 2019/20 Hyundai A-League season but has made the decision to return to his native Denmark with his family.
The 36-year-old said he would look back fondly at his time with Melbourne Victory.
“The decision to retire and return to Denmark was made in the best interests of my family, in particular for my young children,” Poulsen said.
“My family and I have really enjoyed our time living in Melbourne, and Victory has been great to us since we arrived, but we feel now is the right time to return to Denmark.
“It has been an absolute pleasure playing alongside my Victory teammates, AAMI Park is a great football stadium and the Victory supporters not only create an incredible playing experience, they make the club.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone at Victory for their support and wish them every success for the future.”
General Manager Football Operations, Paul Trimboli, congratulated Poulsen on his international and club career.
“On behalf of everyone at Melbourne Victory, we would like to extend our congratulations to Jakob on his football career,” Trimboli said.
“The pinnacle for any footballer is to earn the opportunity to represent your country and Jakob played at some of the biggest tournaments in world football for Denmark including the 2010 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2012.
“We thank Jakob for his professionalism and service during his time with Victory, and we wish him and his family all the best for the next chapter of their lives in Denmark.”
Poulsen played 16 games for Victory during the 2019/20 season.
