Melbourne Victory has named a strong squad for its Grand Final rematch against Adelaide United at Aurora Stadium this Sunday (kick off 1pm), with 12 players from its Championship-winning team making the journey to Launceston.

The friendly will be Melbourne Victory’s last before its season opener against Central Coast Mariners at Etihad Stadium on Thursday, August 6 (kick off 8pm) and Coach Ernie Merrick will use the opportunity to ready the side ahead of its Premiership and Championship defence.

Danny Allsopp and Rodrigo Vargas are both set to make their fourth appearance in as many years in Tasmania, having taken part in all three of Melbourne Victory’s previous encounters at Aurora Stadium, while Archie Thompson, Billy Celeski, Carlos Hernandez, Glen Moss and Melbourne Victory Youth midfielder Matthew Foschini are all making their first trip to the Apple Isle.

Tasmania-s best footballers will also be on show, with men’s (kick off 10.10am) and women’s (kick off 3.15pm) representative matches between the Northern and Southern Premier Leagues to be played on either side of the friendly.

Despite defeating Adelaide in this year’s Grand Final, Melbourne Victory is yet to overcome its South Australian rival at Aurora Stadium, having recorded a draw and two losses at the venue.

Live match updates and images from Aurora Stadium will be posted on Melbourne Victory’s official pages on Facebook and Twitter.

Tickets for the match are available from Max Events by calling (03) 6333 0889, through www.maxevents.com.au or from Launceston City Council Customer Service Centre or Football Federation Tasmania.
