An update from Chairman Anthony Di Pietro

An update from Chairman Anthony Di Pietro

Dear Victory family,

It is with great regret that I advise you of the necessary decision made today by Football Federation Australia (FFA) to postpone the Hyundai A-League season, effective immediately, due the global COVID-19 pandemic.

FFA will monitor the situation over the coming weeks and will re-assess this decision on April 22.

While we fully support the FFA, the unprecedented nature of this decision will have wide reaching implications both for our game and also for our football club.

FFA is working in line with Health Department advice and Federal and State Government decisions, to ensure we protect the future of our game and all involved, at this difficult time.

While we have experienced the highs and lows of on-field performance together as the Victory family over our 15 year journey, the impact of the COVID-19 virus is like nothing we have experienced in our lifetime.

Our love for sport is deeply entrenched in our culture but it must not stand in the way of protecting the health and safety of the community.

While we are all facing great uncertainty, now is not the time for panic. Now is the time for all of us to play our role.

We must follow the advice of the health authorities in order to protect the most vulnerable members of society and we must all make sacrifices and work together to help our nation through this monumental task.

As a club, our primary concern is the health and safety of all of our players, coaches and staff, their families and all of our members and supporters.

The players and coaching staff are desperately disappointed not to be able to return to playing at this point in time, but all are understanding and supportive of the decision.

The administration team is continuing to work around the clock to respond to the biggest financial challenge Melbourne Victory has ever faced. The unity and support of our members is now more important than ever.

Our CEO, Trent Jacobs, the Executive and staff are doing everything possible to help navigate our club through this unchartered territory.

To our members, you are the lifeblood of our club.

It has been humbling to see and hear the messages from our members who have offered their support, some even wanting to fundraise.

I want you to know we are working through the impacts on membership and the Club will provide you with further clarification shortly.

While we have closed our office, practicing social distancing and for some, self-isolation, I want you to know Melbourne Victory Football Club is here for all our fans.

We are committed to keeping you informed, and I encourage all our members and fans to access our website and social media platforms for regular news and ways to stay connected with the club.

It’s also important to stay connected to your fellow members and fans.

Victory is a tight-knit community, and we need each other like never before – it’s ‘Our Victory’.

We will get through this together.

My warmest wishes to you all. Stay safe, take care of your health, and the health of your loved ones.
