Victoria’s best overcome Melbourne Victory

A first half Tom Pondeljak goal wasn’t enough to prevent the Victorian Premier League’s best players from recording a 3-1 win against Melbourne Victory at Mansion Stadium on Wednesday evening.

A first half Tom Pondeljak goal wasn’t enough to prevent the Victorian Premier League’s best players recording a 3-1 win against Melbourne Victory at Mansion Stadium on Wednesday evening.

A brace from Green Gully’s Joel Nikolic and a late Osagie Ederaro penalty put the result beyond doubt for the VPL side after Pondeljak impressively combined with Brazilian striker Ney Fabiano to give Melbourne Victory an early lead.

Nikolic found a way past Melbourne Victory goalkeeper Glen Moss, who made a number of notable saves throughout the match, on either side of half time, while Ederaro converted a well taken penalty in front of approximately 1000 fans.

The match was the second of a series organised by Football Federation Victoria to raise funds for those affected by the Black Saturday bushfires, which claimed 173 lives earlier this year.

Melbourne Victory will now focus on its upcoming two-match tour of China, where it will face Chinese Super League sides Guangzhou Pharmaceutical and Tianjin Teda in June.
