Victory looking for W-League redemption at AAMI Park

Melbourne Victory’s Westfield W-League side will look to put a disappointing loss to Canberra United aside when it faces Sydney FC at AAMI Park on Sunday.

A slick Canberra United side proved too much for Melbourne Victory in Round 10 of the Westfield W-League, running out 3-0 winners in the ACT.

Victory kept pace with the reigning Champions up until the stroke of half-time, before Canberra took control of the rest of the contest.

Christine Nairn almost pegged a goal back late in the second half via a wonderfully struck free-kick, however a smart save by Lydia Williams ensured Victory would end the contest goalless.

Third-placed Sydney FC lie next in wait for Dave Edmondson’s side, with the match set to be played at AAMI Park at 2.00pm, before Melbourne Victory’s Hyundai A-League side faces Perth Glory at 5.00pm.

Sydney FC is coming off a 3-0 defeat to Brisbane Roar, but despite that most recent result the Sky Blues have enjoyed a strong Westfield W-League campaign.

Matildas and Sydney forward Kyah Simon has been prolific so far this year and will look to use the perfect AAMI Park pitch to show her wares.

Melbourne Victory currently anchors the Westfield W-League ladder, however a win over Sydney FC could see it close the gap to the eighth-placed Perth Glory.

With only four rounds remaining in the Westfield W-League season, a win over old rivals Sydney FC at AAMI Park will do Victory’s ladder position and confidence no end of good.Â
