Melbourne Victory has announced the signing of Qantas Young Socceroo and inaugural Victory Youth Medallist Mathew Theodore for one year.
Theodore, 19, captained Victory Youth in its first season and becomes the first player from the side to graduate to the Hyundai A-League.
The attacking midfielder, who recently returned from the Qantas Young Socceroos- training camp in Canberra, played in every Victory Youth match last season and was crowned the side-s best and fairest player in the process.
Victory Football Operations Manager Gary Cole said: “Mathew was the inaugural captain of our National Youth League side, winner of the first Victory Youth Medal and is an exciting young talent who deserves his chance in the Hyundai A-League.
“He-s a creative midfielder who is technically very gifted and difficult to get the ball from.
“Mathew spent a lot of time with the senior squad last season and has been rewarded for his efforts with a contract that will give him a chance to establish himself.”
Theodore added: “This is a fantastic opportunity and one that I-m really excited about.
“I spent a lot of time with the senior team last season, which was a good experience. It allowed me to get to know the players and, just as importantly, it showed me what it takes to win a premiership and championship.
“The next year will be a great challenge and one that I-m really looking forward to.”
