Melbourne Victory v Canberra United

The city and people of Geelong get to experience first hand, and discover what all the excitement is all about, as the Westfield W-League travels to the Geelong Cats’ territory!

Melbourne take on Canberra-s Green Machine, and both teams will be looking to start 2011 off with a bang!

As we reflect on the first half of the season, it would be fair to say that the Victory has had a rather inconsistent year.

Each game, the Melbourne girls have played their hearts out and, on occasion, deserved the win. But they-ve been unable to clinch the points.

A star has been born in 16-year-old replacement keeper Brianna Davey, who-s shone for her team in goals, stepping in for Westfield Matildas keeper Melissa Barbieri.

This young and enthusiastic team is looking to stay alive in the competition and secure points. First stop: serious Westfield W-League contenders, Canberra!

In contrast to Melbourne, the Green Machine has had a somewhat solid year and has been achieving consistent results.

This team may well be quietly confident about the prospects of a finals berth, and rightly so.

They fly under the radar and play without some of the added expectations that both Brisbane and Sydney face, such as that of defending a title.

The Green Machine is making its own journey to the top, and that journey starts Saturday in Geelong against the Victory!

If you can-t make it down to Skilled Park in Geelong to support your team, this match is the match of the round, and can be viewed live and exclusive on ABC 1 at 3pm AEST.
