An experienced shot-stopper at A-League level, Jack Duncan comes to Melbourne Victory with the ambitions to challenge for the number one jersey.
Born in Perth, Duncan made the move to New South Wales to kick-start his footballing career where he caught the eye of the Newcastle Jets while playing with NSW NPL side, Sutherland Sharks.
While in the Jets academy, Duncan represented his country at U20 and U23 levels before moving back home to Perth to represent the Glory.
In 2015, Duncan made the move to Europe with Danish side Randers where he spent one year in the Danish Superliga before returning to Australia with the Jets. It was in his second stint with Newcastle where he established himself as the first-choice shot-stopper, playing 44 games before securing a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.
Duncan spent two season in the Middle East with Al-Qasiah, making 57 appearances in the Saudi Pro League before making a third move to Newcastle. The goalkeeper picked up where left off with the Jets making a further 52 league caps and notching his 100th A-League appearance in 2023.
Duncan spent last season at Wellington as deputy to A-League All-Star and Bornemouth-bound Alex Paulsen and will look to compete for first-team football back in Australia with Victory.
Jack Duncan Q&A
How would you personally describe your playing style?
I’m a proactive goalkeeper. I like to sweep in behind and look to come for crosses. Some strengths throughout my career are my shot stopping ability and performances in 1v1s.
What is your impression of Melbourne Victory?
Victory has always been seen across the league as setting the benchmark on the field, in the terraces and as a club who do things to the highest standard. I look forward to maintaining that standard and repaying the faith shown by the club.
What do you think you’ve learnt most/your favourite lessons as a footballer so far?
I have learnt that football is a mixture of great highs and challenging lows and I continuously learn to ride that wave. In football everyone sees the game in their own way and that is what makes it so special. As a professional athlete the relentless process to strive for excellence will bring the desired result in the end.
What are you hoping to achieve personally and as a team this season?
Personally, I am aiming to deliver every week as Victory’s #1 and play my role within the team’s success. As a team, we will always strive to be the best and provide an exciting experience for the fans.
