Jason Davidson sets Victory trophy ambition before opening fixture

Jason Davidson has outlined his Melbourne Victory ambitions ahead of Round 1 of the Isuzu UTE A-League.

The 23-time Socceroo is excited to take to the field in the colours of his hometown club for the first time this weekend.

At AAMI Park, on Saturday, October 18, kick-off 7.35pm AEDT, Victory will do battle against the 2024/25 Premiers Auckland FC.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Davidson discussed what it means to represent the Club and how he, along with the other experienced heads, are targeting silverware.

“[It is] amazing. To be home, my family and friends are here, I’m a Melbourne boy. It’s an honour to be a part of the Club and this team.

“We’ve worked hard and we have the ambition to win a trophy here.”

Davidson’s arrival formed part of a comprehensive recruitment drive during the off-season, which concluded with the deadline day arrival of Juan Mata.

And when quizzed about the World Cup winner, Davidson gave a glowing report on his new teammate.

“Firstly, I’d like to say he’s an amazing person. For someone who’s done so much in this game to be so humble and such an approachable person, it’s unbelievable.

“I think he’s going to surprise a few people. I think he’s come to the right Club, it’s a perfect fit for us and him, and I think he’s going to surprise a few people this year.”
