Courtney Newbon wants Melbourne Victory Women to reward their home supporters in the Big Blue.
The goalkeeper, who made her 50th appearance for the Club against Brisbane Roar earlier this month, has been an ever-present between the sticks this season, having joined during the 2023/24 campaign.
Victory are currently fifth on the Ninja A-League ladder, four points off the summit, going into a crunch meeting with Sydney FC at the Home of the Matildas on Sunday, January 25, kick-off 5pm AEDT.
Speaking during her pre-match press conference, Newbon, following a road defeat to Adelaide United last time out, evaluated the advantages of playing here in Melbourne for Jeff Hopkins’ team.
“You always want to win at your home ground. Travelling can be tough. Here we get to sleep in our own beds, be here a couple of hours before kick off, and know the feel of the pitch as we’ve been training on it.
“Having that home support on site, people from near and far coming to support us, we really appreciate, and obviously even more so at home games.”

Looking closer at the weekend’s match, Victory’s penultimate of the month, Newbon gave an insight into the team’s preparations for facing a Sydney side currently placed 11th in the standings.
“We’ve done quite a bit of analysis on them this week, like we do every week, and we’re setting up in a way that hopefully we can see their flaws, and we can maximise on them.
“But it will come down to being clinical in those opportunities and doing our jobs well on a personal level.”
