Blissett: Victory’s Female Football Round means a lot

Melbourne Victory’s Chelsea Blissett is excited for the Club to celebrate the women shaping football.

The A-League Women’s final home fixture of the 2025/26 campaign is Female Football Round, a shared and inclusive experience embodying the 2026 International Women’s Day theme of ‘Give to Gain’, focused on driving outcomes that can elevate participation opportunities and community engagement for women and girls within the elite ALW space.

On the field, Victory host Western Sydney Wanderers at The Home of The Matildas on Saturday, March 14, kick-off 6pm AEDT, with gates open an hour before.

Jeff Hopkins’ side are currently sixth on the ladder and looking to fend off the advances of Central Coast Mariners and Brisbane Roar to finish in the Finals spots.

Speaking during her pre-match press conference, Blissett discussed the importance of what the Female Football Round represents.

“I think it means a lot to us. We’re seeing a change and a growth in the game that we haven’t really seen. We’re starting to really push for full-time professionalism, and I think it means a lot to us to be able to celebrate that and be able to push that onto our fans and into the A-League Women’s in general.

“That is what we want out of our league, and this is what we see for the future of our league. For everyone to come down and support, not only shows we all love football, but also Australians are fans of female football too.”

Chelsea Blissett takes on Newcastle Jets in Round 16.

After welcoming Western Sydney, Victory wrap up their regular season schedule with trips to Sydney FC and Perth Glory, and Blissett is fixated on taking maximum points from these matches.

“Definitely there is an expectation on us moving forward that we only want wins. We don’t want draws; we don’t want to rely on other results to get to where we want to go. If we want to make a really good run into Finals and set ourselves up really well. We definitely need to collect those nine points.”
