Roderick Miranda departs Melbourne Victory

Melbourne Victory can confirm that Roderick Miranda will depart the Club after the completion of his contract.

Miranda first arrived in Australia to sign for Victory in 2021 after an impressive playing career across Europe that saw him represent the likes of Benfica, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Olympiacos, and the towering Portuguese central defender quickly impressed in the A-League Men’s competition.

Miranda helped the team on their journey to the Australia Cup trophy in 2021, while playing a pivotal role in defence as part of the Club’s back-to-back Grand Final appearances in 2023/24 and 2024/25 respectively.

Donning the captain’s armband for Victory for the past three seasons, the 35-year-old has had a significant impact off the pitch at Victory, particularly from a leadership perspective, where he has provided a fantastic example to the talented cohort of young players at the Club, of the standards expected not only of them as professional athletes, but importantly, as players at Melbourne Victory.

Recording 120 league appearances across his five seasons with the Club, Miranda reflected on his time at Victory with great fondness.

“I’d like to thank everyone at Melbourne Victory. From Anthony Di Pietro and John Dovaston, Caroline Carnegie and John Didulica, to Tony Popovic, Patrick Kisnorbo, Arthur Diles and all the remaining coaching staff and office staff for these amazing 5 years.

“When I first arrived with my family, we never expected to stay for so long and with so many life memories. My boys’ best memories are all related to Melbourne Victory and the city of Melbourne. Walking with them on the pitch and seeing their happiness to celebrate with all of you fans will last forever in my memory. Thank you to all the fans, all the Melbournians, for making my family feel at home since day one.

“This has been the Club where I spent the most time and will remain in my heart as one of my dearest. I’ll be supporting from a distance and wishing the Club to get more success on the pitch, because Victory has the best fans in the League and you truly deserve it.”

Melbourne Victory Director of Football, John Didulica, thanked Miranda for his contributions to the Club for the past half-decade.

“Roderick has been a wonderful player for Melbourne Victory who came to the Club when it was at its lowest and brought so much, both on and off the pitch.

“We wish Roderick and his family nothing but the best into the future and we thank him for his fantastic five years of service for Melbourne Victory.”
