Victory end October away to Persib

Melbourne Victory face Persib Bandung in the AFC Champions League Two.

Giovanni Savarese’s men have travelled to West Java, Indonesia, for their Match Day 3 bout with the reigning Super League champions on Wednesday, October 28, kick-off 11:15pm AEDT.

The Club’s first-ever run in the competition is beginning to take shape after a point earned on the road against Thể Công–Viettel in September was backed up with an impressive 3-0 win over FC Seoul a fortnight ago.

Persib have also started the ACL Two with real promise, recording back-to-back wins over those same opponents, meaning that top spot is up for grabs when the teams face off at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium.

The Boys in Blue

A diary of international travels continues for Melbourne Victory following a trip to Thể Công–Viettel in Match Day 1 and a jet across the Tasman for a Matchweek 1 A-League Men meeting with early ladder leaders Wellington Phoenix.

The Boys in Blue, having also been on the road for all but one of their Australia Cup ties, are being managed accordingly by Head Coach, Giovanni Savarese, and his staff following another full-blooded meeting with Melbourne City on Saturday that ended one apiece.

Captain, Jason Davidson, goalscorer against FC Seoul Guillermo May, and Louis D’Arrigo have all remained in Victoria in advance of this weekend’s A-League Men Matchweek 3 duel against Central Coast Mariners.

Joshua Inserra has also not travelled. He was withdrawn during the second half of the Melbourne Derby, and hospitalised post-match. Observations continue, and a return-to-play date has not been set.

Last time out

Melbourne Victory’s busy schedule of big matches continued with Saturday’s tasty Melbourne Derby. The hosts made a flying start in front of nearly 20,000 supporters at AAMI Park, with Keegan Jelacic breaking the deadlock in the seventh minute. This could have been extended early in the second half when Guillermo May and Jason Davidson both saw headers well saved by Macklin Freke; instead, Victory had to settle for a point as Andrew Nabbout equalised soon after.

Persib Bandung claimed a dramatic away success over 10-player Garudayaksa F.C. in the Super League on Sunday. Argentine attacker Mariano Peralta put them ahead through a well-placed finish after 16 minutes at Pakansari Stadium, but they would be pegged back midway through the second half by Jayro Jean’s close-range effort. However, a red card shown to Aleksandar Busnić invited the visitors to apply late pressure, and this told when Adam Alis netted a 92nd-minute winner.
