Mr Di Pietro said, “To look up into the stands and witness a sea of Melbourne Victory support has left an indelible mark on all of us. It signified what our club means to so many and clearly highlighted the interest that has been generated in the lead up to the season.
“While it is often talked about, the past two home games confirmed without any doubt, that we are the biggest club in the country, and that is due largely to the sheer volume of members and fans that have been in attendance. But it isn-t just about numbers through the turnstiles, it-s also about who Melbourne Victory fans are and how we support our team.
“The atmosphere at our first two home games was extraordinary. The thunderous chanting, the colour, the banners and flags have been akin to football matches witnessed throughout Europe,” Mr Di Pietro added.
“The manner in which everyone comes together and stands united for our club is outstanding; and importantly everyone-s conduct has made for a safe and enjoyable environment for all.
“On behalf of the Board, management, players and staff, I want to thank each and every one of you who attended our two launch games this season and made those events an unforgettable spectacle and experience for all.
Mr Di Pietro went on to say, “there is a long way to go, and things still need to continue to improve on the pitch, but with the biggest and best group of supporters, we look forward with optimism.”
With a view to the much anticipated clash with ladder-leaders, Brisbane Roar, on Saturday night, the Chairman is confident that the support of our fans will go a long way to helping us end their 32-game unbeaten streak.
“Playing against Brisbane this week represents a massive challenge for us, and we look forward to seeing you all in the terraces, supporting in the way that makes our football club the best in the country.”
