As Chairman of Melbourne Victory Football Club, I want to update our members and supporters about the selection process we-re undertaking in our search for a new Head Coach.
The Board of Directors will be responsible for overseeing the appointment and I-m pleased by the level of football expertise available to us. This includes, Club Director, Ian McLeod, who boasts an impressive football pedigree. He has served on the board of English Premier League club, Fulham FC, and was Chief Executive Officer of Scottish giants Glasgow Celtic between 2001 and 2003.
Further to this, I-m happy to note that Football Federation Australia (FFA) National Technical Director, Han Berger has offered his services and will also be at our disposal throughout. Mr Berger was instrumental in appointing current Qantas Socceroos Coach, Holger Osieck, and will be available to provide an objective, yet highly credentialed football opinion. Mr Berger had a long and distinguished coaching career throughout Europe and more recently was Director of Football at De Graafschap.
It-s with great pleasure that I can confirm the club has been inundated with applicants for the role, with over 70 resume-s received from both national and international candidates.
Our Board is extremely impressed with the calibre of coaches and we will be taking our time to go through the process to ensure that we find the coach that is the best fit for Melbourne Victory and aligns to our criteria. We will create a short list, before proceeding to the next phase.
I want to assure everyone that our Board has a very clear direction as to where we want to take our football club in 2011/12 and beyond. We will advise you of our strategic plans throughout the pre-season and importantly keep you abreast of any developments as they occur with regard to our coaching appointment.
Turning to football matters, the feedback from caretaker coach Mehmet Durakovic and the football staff is that training is going well, with fitness levels continuing to improve and new players Solorzano and Rojas settling in. The performance against Tianjin TEDA was very encouraging and we were all disappointed not to get the three points, which says a lot about everyone-s frame of mind and our determination to succeed in the Champions League.
We look forward to seeing you at Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, in our second chance to take all three points against Tianjin TEDA.
