Melbourne Victory Women captain Tal Karp described her team-s historic 2-0 triumph over Central Coast Mariners Women at the Telstra Dome as a “dream start”.
Victory Women kick-started its Westfield W-League campaign off in blistering fashion with a domineering performance, playing as the curtain raiser to the Hyundai A-League blockbuster between Victory and Sydney FC.
Karp, who played a pivotal role in the win through the midfield, said the side clicked quicker than expected on the big stage, which culminated in a super result first up.
”It-s definitely a perfect way to start our Westfield W-League season,” the former Westfield Matilda said.
”To perform the way we did in front of what we thought was a pretty good crowd, and at a great stadium, was terrific.
“We still think we could have played better and we have some things to work on during the week, but the result is what was important and we got it.
”Let-s hope this is the start of something special.”
Victory Women coach Matt Shepherd also praised his side.
”I said to the girls before the match that it was important that we took the game to them right from the first whistle, and we certainly did that,” Shepherd said.”
”We attacked early and missed a few chances, but in the end I think it was that pressure that eventually ensured we scored.
”It was a great start.”
Victory Women will take on Sydney FC next Saturday in its first away assignment at Parramatta Stadium.
