Melbourne Victory suffered a 7-1 loss to Altona Magic in the NPL2 West on Sunday.
Summary
James McGarry and Robert Stambolziev struck for Magic in the first half at Epping Stadium before a flurry of goals after the break.
Daniel Kuczynski scored twice to go with efforts from Jon McShane and Troy Ruthven, while Victory managed to net through Yazid Said.
The visitor made the better start and took the lead in the 13th minute through McGarry.
Victory goalkeeper Majak Mawith got down low to make a good save, but McGarry put away the rebound to make it 1-0.
Altona doubled its lead six minutes later, Stambolziev heading in a cross from the left.
Victory settled for the remainder of the half, but it created little of note before the break.
Mawith was called into action seconds after the interval, denying Ben Litfin from close range.
The goalkeeper’s next save led to McShane putting away the rebound, before Kuczynski headed in Altona’s fourth.
Ruthven struck from distance before Kuczynski netted again, while the visitor scored its seventh with a header from a corner.
Said’s fine effort from distance got Victory on the scoresheet in the 63rd minute.
Under-20s
Victory’s under-20s extended their winning streak to five games, beating Altona Magic 3-1.
