Kean provides squad update

Melbourne Victory interim Head Coach, Steve Kean, has provided a squad update ahead of the Club’s meeting with Macarthur FC at Campbelltown Stadium.

Victory goes head-to-head with the Bulls on Friday night, eight days after falling to a 2-1 defeat at AAMI Park.

Kean’s most recent absentee from the squad is left-back, Adama Traore, whose five-match suspension has now been served.

Traore

“Our only new concern is Traore, even though he is available for selection he has woken up with a high temperature,” Kean said.

“It’s a shame. We’ve missed him and he would’ve come straight back into the team.”

With Nick Ansell suspended and Traore missing through illness, Kean has called up a youthful midfielder.

“We’ve brought in a young player, Will Wilson, who can make his place felt.

“He won’t play at left-back, it would be unfair to ask him to play out of position. If he does feature, he will come into the midfield,” said Kean.

Rojas

The interim Head Coach has also shared the latest on attacking midfielder Marco Rojas, who has been out of action with a fractured fibula since February.

“We rescanned Marco Rojas’ injury and he’s now going to a rehabilitation centre in New Zealand for ten days,” Kean confirmed.

“Sometimes when you do change the environment with a long-term injury, it can put a spring in your step.

“Hopefully when he comes back, he will join training because there is progress after looking at the scan yesterday,” Kean said.

Shotton

Centre-back, Ryan Shotton, continues to regain match fitness after being ruled out since Victory’s 1-1 draw with Central Coast in March.

Shotton is on the park now and he has taken part in the last two sessions,” said Kean.

“He’s been out for a while and he’s not taking part in the full session, but he’s making good progress and trained well today.”
