A-League preview: Wanderers v Victory

Melbourne Victory looks to finish its Hyundai A-League season on a high when it faces the Western Sydney Wanderers on Wednesday.

Summary

Victory returned to winning ways in emphatic style last time out, thrashing Perth Glory 4-0.

Marco Rojas scored a brace to go with an Andrew Nabbout penalty and Elvis Kamsoba’s first league goal for the club.

Rojas was set up by teenagers Luis Lawrie-Lattanzio and Birkan Kirdar as he took his tally to six goals in 10 Hyundai A-League games this season.

Nabbout, meanwhile, has netted seven, while Kamsoba ended his wait for a first with a powerful strike after coming off the bench.

Lleyton Brooks made his Victory debut as a substitute and the teenager teed up Kamsoba for his goal.

It was a fine performance by Victory, which wraps up its league campaign against the Wanderers at Bankwest Stadium.

The win was also the first for interim head coach Grant Brebner, who replaced Carlos Salvachua in June.

Victory will finish 10th on the table this season, while the Wanderers sit ninth heading into both teams’ final games of the campaign.

What they said

“It’s very important to continue on from this performance. I don’t necessarily think it’s a dead rubber, yes in regards to the league and that, but we’re going to go out there, we’re going to fight again for 90 minutes and we’re going to try and play our style of football.” ā€“ Victory star Rojas.
