A-League report: City 7-0 Victory

Jake Brimmer

Melbourne Victory slumped to a 7-0 loss to City in the Derby in the A-League on Saturday.

Summary

Andrew Nabbout had opened the scoring at AAMI Park before Adama Traore was sent off.

Jamie Maclaren scored five times, including two penalties, after the red card before Adrian Luna also netted.

Victory threatened twice in the opening nine minutes.

Callum McManaman saw a 20-yard effort tipped away by City goalkeeper Tom Glover in just the second minute.

Jake Brimmer had the next chance, shooting into the side-netting after Ben Folami beat his marker down the left before cutting back for the midfielder.

But City opened the scoring in the 11th minute, when Nabbout’s outside-of-the-foot cross from the left went in off the back post.

Victory was reduced to 10 men on the half-hour mark as Traore saw red for a challenge on Nabbout.

Just two minutes later and City was awarded a penalty after Nabbout was brought down by Jacob Butterfield, with Maclaren converting from the spot.

McManaman drove another effort over the crossbar in the 39th minute as his lively first half continued.

Victory held firm to begin the second half before Maclaren headed in a Marco Tilio cross in the 64th minute.

City was awarded another penalty when Brimmer brought down Tilio, Maclaren again converting from the spot.

Victory went close to pulling a goal back in the 77th minute, but Brimmer’s great effort from the corner of the area hit the post.

Maclaren made it 5-0 with six minutes remaining, side-footing in a cutback from Stefan Colakovski, before adding another, while Luna made it 7-0.
