Academy Preview | Friday night football awaits

Melbourne Victory heads west this Friday night for a tough away game against Werribee City.

Following a week off, league-leading Victory returns to action at Galvin Park Reserve in Werribee.

Joe Palatsides’ side will take on a Werribee City team currently sitting 12th in VPL1, but with a formidable home record.

Werribee are still unbeaten at Galvin Park in league games, collecting five points from their first three outings.

Victory though will believe they are capable of claiming all three points, as they aim to extend their unbeaten start to the season to eight games and keep their fifth consecutive clean sheet.

Palatsides’ team most recently secured an impressive 3-0 win over Melbourne City, with Adem Duratović, Jesse Hoey and Jack Mihailidis scoring the goals.

The result saw Victory extend their lead on top of the ladder to two points, with the chance to grow that lead even further with a positive result on Friday.

Werribee though pose a real threat, as despite their ladder position, only a couple of positive results are necessary for the Bees to propel themselves back into the top half of the table.

Victory will hope to exploit some of the defensive fragility Werribee has shown in recent weeks, conceding five goals twice in the last three league games, as well as in their most recent cup tie.

Nonetheless, a challenging away fixture awaits, with the evenness of VPL1 ensuring no game is straightforward.

Be sure to get down to Galvin Park to support the team in Friday night football!
