Academy Preview | Tough away game awaits Victory

Melbourne Victory faces a major task this weekend when they head west to take on Caroline Springs George Cross.

The two teams promoted from the third tier last season face off for the first time in 2024 this Saturday.

Victory will come into the game full of confidence, having most recently dispatched North Geelong Warriors 4-0 at home.

Joe Palatsides’ team did most of their damage in the first half, having raced to a 3-0 lead by the time the interval arrived.

Four different goal scorers reflected what was an impressive display as Victory maintained their position atop the VPL1 ladder early in the season.

However, this week’s opponents will likely provide a stern test.

Georgies have made a decent start to life in VPL1, taking five points from their opening five games.

The previous two outings have been less successful for Georgies, suffering narrow defeats on both occasions.

Victory though will be well aware of the formidable task presented by playing at City Vista.

Last season, the teams played out a tense 0-0 draw at the venue in what was one of Victory’s hardest-fought points of the season.

Georgies have secured back-to-back promotions in the last two seasons and will be intent on returning to form this Saturday.

Victory though has plenty of reason for optimism considering their electric start to the season, winning four of their first five games and conceding just two goals in that time.

Be sure to get out to City Vista Pavilion & Sports Field this Saturday 16 March, kicking off at 5:30pm AEDT.
