After 21 rounds, the number 6 could define Victory’s season

Following a home win over the Mariners in Round 21, the number six has become an important part of Melbourne Victory’s late push for a Finals spot.

Claiming all three points last time out now means Victory’s A-League Men trail sixth placed Sydney FC by six points, with six games remaining.

Currently in the middle of a FIFA break window and week off, Victory will return to action next week away in New Zealand to take on the Wellington Phoenix.

Victory’s run home to the end of the home and away season consists of clashes against Wellington, Melbourne City in the replay of Round 8’s Derby, Perth Glory, Western Sydney, Macarthur, and Brisbane.

Three of those fixtures are home matches for the Victory, a place which has become a house of success recently, recording three wins, one draw and one loss in their last five at AAMI Park.

A total of 18 points are up for grabs for the Victory across the their remaining fixtures.

Aside from Sydney FC who sit sixth, and six points ahead of the Victory, there is a maximum of four points between Melbourne and the five other teams who find themselves outside the league’s top six.

Two wins and six points could be all it takes to shoot Victory back towards finals contention, as the team prepares to return from a week off ahead of a busy period of three games in seven days.
