Club Update – Melbourne Victory supports FFA decision

Dear Victory family,

Today Football Federation Australia (FFA) confirmed its decision to further postpone the 2019/20 Hyundai A-League season, with a review expected before the end of May.

We have been in constant dialogue with the FFA and support the decision based on all the facts and information regarding the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

While we would all like to see our players return to full training to prepare for a restart of the season, we are continuing to work with the FFA and all key stakeholders ahead of May’s review date to ensure we are ready should the green light be given.

FFA has outlined that a decision to return to play will be based on it being satisfied appropriate measures are in place to protect the health and safety of all players and staff.

It will also need to meet all government restrictions in place at the time, including state and territory border controls, and will be in full alignment with the Federal Government and its medical advisors.

As a nation, we are still working through important measures to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and as a league we need to play our role.

We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the bravery, sacrifice and hard work of the countless people around the country who are keeping Australia running.

In particular, we thank the medical professionals, healthcare workers and hospital staff who are tackling COVID-19 head on. You are inspiring us all and are true heroes.

In recent weeks and through these challenging times, we have seen so many people and businesses having to adapt. Our club has been no different. We are pleased to report the value of what we deliver to our community, while looking different, has been at the forefront of our thinking.

Our staff have been working hard to develop and deliver online programs as part of our Education and and Training school holiday programs for outreach students. We are also about to launch custom online coaching programs to support Sport and Recreation Victoria and regional authorities to continue to deliver meaningful outcomes for junior clubs and schools.

In addition, not only are we maintaining daily training, fitness and welfare program support for our A-League team, we are delivering online fitness, football and tactical education for our Academy and Pre-Academy Centre players to ensure we continue to nurture the future of our club.

During difficult times, as we are experiencing now, we have seen the spirit of our club come to the fore. We continue to be inspired by the strength and unity of the Victory family and we have been overwhelmed by the messages of support and offerings of assistance.

You truly are the most passionate and loyal members, supporters and partners in the country and we, like you, look forward to being able to again stand together as a club, when it is safe to do so.

We are doing everything we can to ensure we continue to keep everyone informed and connected via our website and social media platforms, with an array of content from all facets of the club. As more information becomes available, we will ensure you are kept up to date.

In the meantime, we ask the entire Victory family to continue to follow the advice of the Victorian Government and health authorities.

Stay home, stay safe, take care of your health and the health of your loved ones.

We will get through this together.

Sincerely,
