The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Contini and Alan Davidson – convened on Sunday, 29 April 2018 to consider two (2) incidents arising in the Hyundai A-League Semi Final match between Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC on Saturday 28 April 2018.
- The MRP considered an incident involving Jean-Paul De Marigny (Melbourne Victory – Team Official) (De Marigny) which arose in or around the 118th minute of the match. The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as De Marigny was issued with a direct Team Official Red Card.
The MRP determined that De Marigny committed the Team Official offence of “Assault on a Player, Team Official, spectator or any other person other than a Match Official (including physical or aggressive behavior to such individuals)”. The MRP proposed a sanction of four (4) matches, being the Mandatory Match Suspension plus three (3) additional matches. The minimum sanction for the offence is two (2) matches, being the Mandatory Match Suspension plus one (1) additional match.
- The MRP considered an incident involving Dean Anastasiadis (Melbourne Victory – Team Official) (Anastasiadis) which arose in or around the 118th minute of the match. The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Anastasiadis was issued with a direct Team Official Red Card.
The MRP determined that Anastasiadis committed the Team Official offence of “Assault on a Player, Team Official, spectator or any other person other than a Match Official (including physical or aggressive behavior to such individuals)”. The MRP proposed a sanction of four (4) matches, being the Mandatory Match Suspension plus three (3) additional matches. The minimum sanction for the offence is two (2) matches, being the Mandatory Match Suspension plus one (1) additional match.
Under the Hyundai A-League Disciplinary Regulations (the Regulations), both De Marigny and Anastasiadis may refer their matters to the independent Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for hearing and determination of the sole question of either
- what additional sanction should be imposed above the minimum sanction (inclusive of the Mandatory Match Suspension which must be served), applying the Range at the Table of Offences; or
- whether Exceptional Circumstances apply and therefore a sanction outside the Range at the Table of Offences should be imposed, provided always that the Mandatory Match Suspension must be served.
De Marigny and Anastasiadis have until 4:00pm (AEST) Monday, 30 April 2018 to advise whether they wish to appeal the relevant sanctions proposed by the MRP.
