Determined Victory ready for Wanderers test in W-League

Determined Victory ready for Wanderers test in W-League

Melbourne Victory will be out to get its Westfield W-League campaign back on track when it faces Western Sydney Wanderers at Marconi Stadium on Sunday at 3.00pm AEDT.

Dave Edmondson’s side was ultimately outclassed by Adelaide United last week, losing 4-0 in an end-to-end game at Epping Stadium.

Despite the scoreline, Victory looked dangerous in attack, Christine Nairn seeing her effort cannon off the woodwork in the first half.

Melissa Barbieri was outstanding once again in goal, producing a series of fine saves, though she received a straight red card for a professional foul and will serve a one-game suspension.

Barbieri’s ban provides an opportunity for Cassandra Dimovski to return to the starting XI as another tough test looms against the sixth-placed Wanderers.

Western Sydney will be full of confidence after its last-gasp win over Newcastle Jets at the weekend.

Camelina Moscato was the hero for the Wanderers, heading home at the death to secure a 2-1 come-from-behind win.

Victory fans will need to keep an eye on Wanderers captain Keelin Winters, who was the club’s leading scorer last season.

Despite a slow start to the season, Victory has been showing plenty of positive signs as it looks to get off the mark in 2015/16.
