Converting chances into goals will be the key for Victory after a tough run of results, stated Victory Men’s Head Coach, Arthur Diles, readying his team for battle against Brisbane Roar in Round 6 of the Isuzu UTE A-League.
Dealt a defeat in Sydney following a fatal period during the second half of the match, Diles emphasised that the results can be turned around while his team continues to put together opportunities to score in the final third.
“The first thing you’ve got to do is keep creating those chances, because one thing’s for sure – if you’re not creating chances, it’s a bigger headache in itself.
“Being in situations where we can have almost 40 shots in the last two games against two very good opponents – that’s something we’ve got to be proud of and know that we’re doing something right. In the end, if you keep shooting like that, you’ll score.”
Taking on a revitalised Roar side that have kicked off their campaign well, Diles is preparing his troops for a physical battle at Suncorp Stadium.
“They’re a team that’s very aggressive and physical… It’s a new team, obviously with a new coach and new mentality.
“We’ve got to match that enthusiasm, the mentality and the physicality. If we do that, then we’ll let our football take us to where we need to go.”
Welcoming back Louis D’Arrigo to the field last week, who Diles mentioned is up for selection to start the match, Victory’s gaffer provided an update on some of the other names on Victory’s injury list.
“Nish is back, which is fantastic for us… We look forward to giving him game time, whether that’s from the start or coming off the bench. He’s ready to go and we’re looking forward to having him part of the squad.
“Reno (Piscopo) is still a while away, at least a month. (Franco) Lino is at least a month away… we’re still building them up. (Brendan Hamill) is still a while away.”
