Eli Adams on building for the season ahead.

“Hopefully we can achieve something special this year because it’s a special group.”

Pre-season is officially coming to a close with only two weeks to go until Tony Popovic’s side kicks off their ISUZU Ute A-League campaign against Sydney FC.

A successful end to our pre-season tour of Western Australia saw us walk away with a 0-4 win against Perth Glory at Dorrien Gardens, and attacker Eli Adams says the team are only just getting started.

“The scoreline is always lovely to see when you concede zero goals in that second game and score a few,” the 21-year-old said.

“But the performance really shows that we are improving and the things that we’re working on in preseason are really coming to light and that our style of play is something that we want to improve and be the best.

“We want to get as much in as possible before round one so that we’re ready for Sydney.”

Coming into his second year with the Club, Adams says he is excited for what the new season will bring.

“Look, last year was definitely a year that wasn’t up to what we set out to achieve,” Adams said.

“But this year, coming into a long pre-season, you can see that we’re building a culture within the team that holds everyone accountable for the standards and values that we want to instil.

“So, it’s very exciting to see what will happen this season, where we can go, but we’ll only look to improve week-by-week and be better as the season goes on.”

At only 21 years of age, Adams is looking to continue to contribute to the first team and praised the senior leaders for creating a culture that pushes and motivates those who are younger.

“I think the culture within the team is very demanding of each other, that we want to hold each other accountable for the standards and values, and it certainly brings out the best in everyone,” he explained.

“The senior players have certainly taken it upon themselves to help push and motivate young players to be the best that they can and show that this isn’t just a team of seniors and young players, that everyone can contribute to the success we want to achieve this season.”
