Atletico Madrid has confirmed the signing of Croatia international Sime Vrsaljko from Serie A side Sassuolo on a five-year deal.

Vrsaljko, who helped Croatia reach the last 16 at Euro 2016 last month, is a versatile player who adds further depth to coach Diego Simeone’s squad.

“Playing at Atletico is a big challenge for me, I am very happy,” Vrsaljko told the club’s website.

Vrsaljko’s arrival is another boost for Atletico, which has also signed Fernando Torres and Antoine Griezmann to new deals in the past fortnight.

Meanwhile, Juventus will officially begin pre-season training on Wednesday at the club’s Vinovo training base.

New signing Miralem Pjanic, Argentine forward Paulo Dybala, Brazilian defender Alex Sandro and Italian centre-back Daniele Rugani are among those back in the fold, with further stars expected to return before the team departs for Melbourne on July 17.

Atletico, Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur are heading to Melbourne for the 2016 International Champions Cup Australia, presented by Audi.

Melbourne Victory will open the tournament against Juventus at the MCG on Saturday, July 23. Tickets are available here.

Victory will then face Atletico in a tour match at Geelong’s Simonds Stadium on Sunday, July 31. Tickets are available here.
