Melbourne Victory head coach Kevin Muscat has been fined $5000 after being found to have breached the FFA National Code of Conduct.
Muscat was asked by FFA to explain comments he made in a post-match interview with Fox Sports and in the official post-match press conference after the Westfield FFA Cup Semi Final match between Victory and City on Tuesday night.
In determining the appropriate sanction, FFA took into account that Muscat:
- Took responsibility for his comments
- Agreed his choice of certain words and inferences could have been better
“It is important that all players and coaches consider their words carefully when offering their thoughts on matches,” said Head of Hyundai A-League Greg O’Rourke.
“It is perfectly acceptable to suggest you don’t agree with a decision, just as acceptable to suggest you believe the referee got it wrong but not acceptable to question the referee’s integrity.
“The Hyundai A-League expects a high level of respect from its coaches towards match officials and in doing so to set the right example across the broader football community.”
Muscat has seven business days to appeal FFA’s determination, should he wish to do so.
